Sweatin' Shadows

From DirtyS30

I've heard these referred to as SSR Techno Shadows, and Devil Japan Shadow Spokes.
Anyone know which one came first? Or if SSR even ever really manufactured a wheel like this?

Either way they are top three wheels of all time for me.
One wheel Rota has yet to try and fuck up.

Thanks to Riverside and JNC for the flyers.

Ghetto suspension mods haunt me.

As I have recently noticed, my front strut towers have been redrilled.

From Z2

The word from HybridZ is that people actually redrill the holes for the towers as "a quick and dirty way to eliminate unwanted negative camber after lowering your Z car".

From Z2

Supposedly I can just run washers and torque the nuts down and I shouldn't see any ill effects.

I really didn't want to cut the tops out to run camber plates, but I also don't want to be worrying about my struts popping into the extended section of the mounting holes under stress.

What do you guys think I should do? Weld up the holes? Cut the tops out and weld in camber plates? Just leave it? Let me know!

Welding Shit up!

Finally got my hands on a welder!

From Z2

Tim brought over his Hobart 110v Mig welder. It was running solid core 22ga. copper coated wire. He also brought an awesome Craftsman air cutter, and a die grinder.

I brought the beer.

From Z2

As you can see the seat bracket was broken by the previous owner, and there is a little hole under the floor mat hook that needs to be ground out and patched up.

From Z2

We marked out the lines that we would have to cut off of the seat bracket so we are able to make nice straight welds and ensure that the seat bracket will hold up.

From Z2

This die grinder was perfect for cleaning up the holes in the floor.

From Z2

It was gentle enough so that it was difficult to remove more material than we had to, which is great since we just wanted to remove the corroded rusty shit.

From Z2

We just hit this with a wire brush and it was ready to go.

From Z2

I have to get one of these rotary cutters.

From Z2

It literally cut through 16ga steel like butter.

From Z2

Finishing cutting out the junk metal.

From Z2

I just picked up a small plate of 16ga steel at Home Depot. Cut it up with some tin snips and clamped it on.

WELDING!!!

From Z2

From Z2

From Z2

Not too shabby for my first welds ever! :D

From Z2

The first run on the seat bracket is complete.

I need to grind down my giant welds and patch up the inevitable holes and such. I need this to be a pretty diesel bracket as I am a beast and will surely break it if it is weak. I will also be tacking up the floors next.

Big thanks to Tim for coming over and teaching me how to weld. I can't wait to get my own gear and start fabbing up my own gear!

GOT IT!

I tried PB blaster, a torch, a drill, a screw extractor, a hammer, a tow truck, and a pair of mutant Siamese goats to get this f*cking screw out of this block. What ended up working was a tool that looks like I stole it from the '50s.

Wiki:"An impact driver is a tool that delivers a strong, sudden rotational and downward force. In conjunction with toughened screwdriver bits and socket sets, they are often used by mechanics to loosen larger screws (bolts) and nuts that are corrosively "frozen" or over-torqued"

As it turns out, I have needed an impact driver for a long time and just didn't know it existed.

From Z

Since I stripped the hell out of the philips head portion of the screw, I had to dremel out a slot just big enough for my slotted bit.

From Z

I covered the block with paper towels to minimize metallic bits betting where they are not welcome.

From Z

Cut the slot in the screw on the right. the one on the left still had plenty of meat left for screwing (lol).

From Z

You just stick this thing on the screw, turn it to one side and hammer the piss out of it!

From Z

From Z

FINALLY!!!!

From Z

Be careful taking the plate out as you want to be sure you don't cut yourself.

From Z

From Z

If you do though, just wrap it in a shop towel.

From Z

Put your gloves on, and get back to work!

Good as new.

From Z

Big thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I demand that all of you add this too to your toolboxes immediately.

I got this one at Sears (Craftsman) for $20. It was marked $30 but they have it on sale for 31% off right now so go quick!
