Obviously not ideal. Having the strut banging around and scratching up my precious Datsun vinyl. So I decided to fix it.
These are the holes it left.

I had my friend Chris drillpress the rivet points that broke, giving me a new set of holes to attach the bracket to the body.

After Widening the holes a bit to fit a standard #8 machine screw, the bracket was attached.

The hatch strut is now working and the hatch will stay open under it's own power.
